How The Moor became great again!

Sheffield has undergone so much change in the last ten years that some parts of the city are hardly recognisable. In that time, there isn’t a place that has seen more change than The Moor.

The Moor is now home to The Moor Markets (‘offering a selection of food and retail outlets in a modern building reminiscent of the award-winning Winter Garden’). The market is home to over 90 independent businesses. We love this area as we are a big fan of supporting Sheffield’s local businesses. The national newspaper The Independent has described the Moor Markets as the ‘Borough Market’ of the north. The market is vibrant and always busy. It’s fair to say if you’ve lived in Sheffield for more than ten years that The Moor wouldn’t have won any ‘cultural’ awards before it’s redevelopment. A makeover wouldn’t have been enough!

Back in the day you had to travel to Meadowhall if you wanted any new clothes as Sheffield city centre simply didn’t have much choice. “That’s all changed now. H&M, Monki, Primark, GAP & JD Sports are all based on The Moor, along with the UK’s only Weekday store outside of London…. and that’s only a handful of the shops.”

The Moor is now the place to be for shopping, but it offers so much more. There is A LOT of places to eat. Is there too much choice?
There is a (GBK) Gourmet Burger Company, Zizzi, Pizza Express and of course a Nandos. In the way of coffee shops there is a Caffe Nero, Brew & Bean, Costa Coffee (x2 actually!) and a Krispy Kreme. This is before you start to explore any independent boutique eateries!

One of the centrepieces of The Moor, which wasn’t here before the redevelopment, is The Light Cinema. The Light has brought a new level of comfort to cinema in Sheffield, boasting 9 different screens. Each screen use state of the art technology as standard. There is also a bar that serves Sheffield beers so you can make a night of it.

The Moor has come along way in the last few years. Restaurants, Coffee Shops and Clothes Shops are now fighting to be based here. If you need a coffee shop to study in or looking for good quality local food then The Moor offers something for us all.
